GUARDIANS
The intangible elements within me shape who I am, resonating with the exterior of my shell. As these internal aspects expand, they create a sense of place and time, interweaving the past, present, and future. This form emerges from my experiences across different cultures and my desire to belong. As circumstances shift around me, my urge to construct a protective shell becomes more evident and expressive. I use this form as a window to articulate and ventilate my emotions while seeking guidance. I am shaping them as much as they shape me.
I am crafting a form of artifact, drawing from my personal history and the archives I have collected and created. We live in a world where nothing is static—culturally, traditionally, or historically. In this perpetual moment, I allow myself to validate my journey, with clay serving as a record keeper.
In ceramics, the philosophy encompasses not only spatial relationships but also the marks of the maker and the material. During my time in Korea, I practiced traditional Korean pottery, honing culturally specific forms and textures. Yet, I allow my connection to my culture to evolve, enabling me to witness how my work transforms through curiosity.
Each step I take is a conscious act, negotiating where the form is headed and how I wish to shape it, as I communicate with the material throughout the process. Clay enables me to humbly document this journey, demanding my attention to its subtle materiality.
